Daniel Montenegro – Tenor

Recent appearances by this exciting and talented tenor include his European opera debut as Mario in Daniel Catán’s Il Postino at the Théâtre du Châtelet alongside Placido Domingo, and Pang in concert performances of Turandot at the Hollywood Bowl, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. Other recent appearances include Alfredo in La traviata with the Minnesota Opera, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore with the Merola Opera Program in San Francisco, and the Shepherd in Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex at the Sydney Festival under Joana Carneiro, directed by Peter Sellars. As a San Francisco Opera Adler Fellow last season, Daniel appeared as Pong in Turandot, Remendado in Carmen and Rustghello in Lucrezia Borgia. His many appearances with LA Opera have included Gastone in La traviata (also released as a Decca DVD), Maximino Mendez in the world premiere of Lee Holdridge’s Concierto para Mendez and El Dancaïro in Carmen, a role he also performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2008 at the Hollywood Bowl. Further performances for LA Opera include productions of L’incoronazione di PoppeaLuisa FernandaIl tabarro, and Die gezeichneten. Elsewhere in the US, he has performed the Steersman in Der fliegende Holländer with both Portland Opera and Arizona Opera, and is a former Resident Artist at the Minnesota Opera, where he performed Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Nick in The Handmaid’s Tale, Flavio in Norma, and Liverotto in Lucrezia Borgia. Daniel is a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
