Growing up in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, Amelia DeCoster became a devoted choir girl starting in kindergarten, and her first big solo was in the second grade. During her undergraduate years, she veered away from singing and focused on academia. She holds an M.F.A. from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Historic Preservation.
After moving to Los Angeles in 2020, she returned to singing. Her first audition was for the Berlin Opera Academy in 2021, and she secured a spot as a chorus member in Haensel und Gretel.
Last summer, she had roles in two world-premiere operas performed at the Vienna Summer Music Festival, and she prepared the roles of Donna Elvira from Don Giovanni and the Countess Almaviva from Le Nozze di Figaro. Amelia studies a range of repertoire – including art songs, verismo, coloratura, and recently: Wagner. Her love of Debussy songs has led her to recording an album of his Five Poèmes de Baudelaire; she hopes it will be released in the spring of 2023.
